If you are at the credibility interview stage you might be wondering what to expect, and what questions you could be asked.
What is a credibility interview?
Credibility interviews are a standard part of the Student Route (previously Tier 4) visa process and were introduced by the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) department to ensure that your application is authentic and to confirm your genuine interest in studying in the UK.
Does everyone need to do a credibility interview?
You could be invited to a credibility interview if more information is needed for your application if there are documents or information that needs clarifying, if you are processing to another course or postgraduate study, or if there are discrepancies with your visa or immigration history.
How will the credibility interview be conducted?
A UKVI member of staff will conduct the credibility interview and it will usually last 30 minutes. The interview will be in English and will therefore require you to demonstrate your ability to communicate in English and that you are prepared for the level of study you have applied to.
What happens if I do not attend the credibility interview?
If you do not attend your credibility interview then your visa may be refused, which may affect any later applications to study in the UK.
What will I be asked at the credibility interview?
The questions will be related to your study intentions, future study and career plans, your financial stability or ability to fund your studies and living costs, and your ability to demonstrate your English language skills to communicate and study at your chosen level.
Some examples of questions could be:
- Why have you chosen to study in the UK?
- Why have you chosen to study at the University of Bolton?
- Why have you chosen to study this course?
- How will this course prepare you for your future career plans and aspirations?
- The costs for international study are often higher than in a home country, why have you decided to study in the UK?
- If you have studied in the UK before, traveled in the UK, or stayed for a period of time previously, why have you chosen to return to study?
- Are you planning to work in the UK?
- How will you fund your studies and living costs during your studies?
- Why, if any, are there gaps in your study or employment history?
This is a standard process.
