Why can't I make an application, access the student portal, enroll, or access part of the University website?

You may not be able to access some online systems or content when our systems are under maintenance or being updated.

You can also chat with our staff directly every Wednesday from 2 pm - 4 pm and periodically throughout the working week.

Alternatively, chat with our current students who will be able to share this information with you and any other course-related queries.

Or book onto one of our Open Days or Course Advice Days to find out more and speak with the team.

These activities are usually completed when the system is least used, such as after typical working hours, so that we do not affect your usual access to make applications, access moodle, your student portal, or other services.

Some of the systems that could be affected are:

  • Application links and existing application forms accessed from the course pages.
    If you are unable to make an application by the link on the course page, then please ensure to check for the alternative forms on the how to apply section - these will be made available as soon as possible. Alternatively, please try again later or the following day to check if the link has been opened.
  • Access to moodle, Student Portal, My Details, My Files, remote apps (apps.bolton.ac.uk website to launch remote apps ie. Matlab, nvivo, multisim, SPSS, Proteus).
    If you are unable to access the above services, please bear with us while we finish the maintenance or update. The relevant department will usually inform you of when the maintenance will start and end, though some critical maintenance may extend longer.
    If you have an urgent need for any online service then please contact your programme leader, or for other IT services raise a ticket with the IT Self Service Portal.
  • Enrolment services
    Services such as sending enrolment invitations to new students, informing Student Finance England of your enrolment, your ability to upload items to the enrolment system, or the ability to access the system from some devices may be affected. In this case, you will need to wait until normal service is resumed and the enrolment information can be fully processed. If your course is starting very soon during the maintenance then please contact your Programme Leader or Personal Tutor to confirm any details about your induction or timetables. Details can be found on the course page. If you have an urgent need to discuss Enrolment please contact the Admissions team on admissions@bolton.ac.uk or call (0)1204 903 394. 
  • CAS Documents
    We understand that international applicants are keen to start the visa process as soon as possible, however, documents such as CAS may be delayed due to maintenance or system updates and will be processed as soon as possible once normal service resumes. Please bear with us while we work on this.
    If your CAS enquiry is urgent please contact CAS@bolton.ac.uk or the Admissions Team on (0)1204 903 394. 
  • Course Interviews
    Course interviews will be rescheduled around essential maintenance and new interview invitations will be sent, or resent, to you once normal service resumes.
